5 Ways Use Bible Story Banners in Kids Ministry
Parents and children’s ministry pastors alike are constantly looking for more effective ways to disciple children and teach them about God.
With so much entertainment vying for their attention, it can be challenging to get kids to focus for more than a few minutes on a Bible lesson.
Any parent can tell you that kids enjoy bright colors, fun pictures or artwork, and captivating stories.
Thankfully, we have the best stories at our fingertips in the Bible. The challenge is how to present Bible stories to children in a way that gets their attention and draws them into the narrative.
One way we can help children learn about God's Word is by showing them a picture that depicts what happened. Unless you’re a gifted artist who can sketch a scene, you might consider a Bible story banner instead.
At ChurchBanners.com, we have a variety of Bible story banners you can use to show kids what’s happening in the story you’re about to read that day.
Here are 5 ways to use Bible story banners in kids ministry:
#1 - Highlight a series of stories
Instead of sharing a bible story in isolation, you can discuss one Bible story each week and tie them together using a series of banners.
You could use a few banners as you're teaching kids the story of creation through the flood or to highlight Jesus’ birth, key moments in His ministry, crucifixion, and ascension.
#2 - Present banners around a core theme
If you’re going to do lessons on a central theme during the month, you could use banners that remind children of last week’s story and show them what you’re going to cover this week.
Themes to use and which kids ministry banners correspond with that theme:
- Love - Jesus Let Children Come
- Faith - Moses Parting the Red Sea, Daniel Lion’s Den, Abraham and Issac
- Courage - David & Goliath, Moses Burning Bush
- Creation - Land and Sea, Living Creatures, Sun and Stars, Adam and Eve, The Fall
- God’s Faithfulness - Noah’s Ark, Abraham Stars, Jericho, Samson, Jesus Healer
#3 - Post during VBS
Use the Bible story banners that align with your VBS theme and the lessons or stories you choose to highlight during VBS.
These are great visual reminders of each story and help engage children who aren’t as familiar with the Bible (and VBS volunteers who are new believers and continuing to learn Biblical foundations).
If you're helping children memorize a Bible verse during VBS, you could use a banner that matches that Scripture to help them remember the verse.
#4 - Use to teach children during holiday seasons
In the weeks leading up to Christmas, use the corresponding banners to tell the story about how God prepared the way for Jesus to be born.
Then as we observe Lent and prepare our hearts for Easter, use the appropriate banners as you teach children about Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem, His death, and resurrection.
#5 - Show a timeline of events in Sunday School
Bible story banners are a great way to visually depict a timeline of events in the classroom. From creation to Jesus’ life, there are several options to consider as you look to pair a visual representation of the Bible with your curriculum.
Bible story banners are a simple yet powerful way to engage children visually in the stories of God's Word. Consider how your church could use these banners to teach and disciple kids each week.
