Church Backdrop Banners: How To Make The Biggest Impact For Social Media Video and Your Auditorium
Backdrop banners are an ideal addition to your live broadcast, in-person service atmosphere, and for decoration around your building. Use them to grab attention, share a message, or give directions.
We work with thousands of churches every month, and we want to share some of the ideas our clients have used to help their church backdrop banners have the biggest possible impact.
Whether your church is a compact auditorium with a small entryway or a large complex with multiple buildings, backdrop banners can be used to create a wow factor for your church guests and your members.
Church Backdrop Banners For Shooting Video
The key to video on social media is attention. Getting people to stop and watch and keeping their attention as long as possible.
The first part of this (getting their attention to stop and watch) is mostly visual, and this is where your church's backdrop banner comes into play.
Choose a design that catches the viewers eyes, has your logo on it, or matches the theme of your topic if you have a current series.
Outside of your weekend services, you might have a mid-week podcast - "Coffee with Pastor" or "Leadership Lessons" or a conversation about upcoming events in your community or interviewing community leaders.
Many of our backdrop banners can be printed on both sides, so you can have a "Leadership Lessons" logo on one side and a picture of the landscape of your city for a community podcast on the other.
Many churches choose a more general-purpose backdrop design on one side (like simply the church logo) to act as a multi-purpose backdrop, with something more specific on the other side.
A single banner could also be your church's main logo on one side, and your student ministry logo on the other, offering two unique backdrops on a single banner.
Church Stage Backdrop Banners For Church Online Services
Depending on the size of your stage and auditorium, a backdrop may not seem as large in practical application, but that shouldn't stop you from using a stage backdrop banner.
If you have cameras in your auditorium, consider how they frame your Pastor while speaking and how the backdrop will work in the background of the frame.
While you might have screens up top or to the side, a blank stage behind the speaker, or empty choir risers, or a centered drum set might actually be distracting to a viewer who is watching online or sitting near the back and watching on the screens.
Integrate a similar design between your church's stage backdrop banner and your projector or flat screens if your screens aren't used for a camera feed.
If your series is about a certain theme, use related images on your screens to match your printed stage backdrop banner.
For example, if your series is about creation, you could have a printed backdrop banner for your church stage behind your Pastor and the garden of Eden, or the universe on your side or top screens.
If your stage is large, you might consider multiple backdrops that span the stage to create a more intimate atmosphere between the speaker and the audience compared to a large open stage.
What type of material should a backdrop banner be?
Consider your lighting and reflections. All of our backdrop banners are vibrant colors and not reflective - made of polyester.
Many churches choose an economical vinyl banner from someone else, only to have to pay to replace it with a different material since vinyl banners tend to reflect bright lights or daylight from windows when used on video.
We do produce plenty of vinyl banners, but they're best for outdoor use since they're weather resistant, or displays in a foyer, not as video backdrops.
Keep in mind there are suspended banners (often hanging from a pole suspended between two stands) and a tension banner (where the banner wraps fully around the frame).
If your video will show the frame, then a tension banner is much more appealing.
If your video won't show all the way to the frame, then a suspended banner will work perfectly.
Use Variety To Your Advantage With Backdrops
The churches that are seeing the most success with video on social media are using variety to their advantage.
People will easily tune out what they think they've seen before and just keep scrolling, but leveraging variety means from the very first moment of your video, the viewer will realize this is something they haven't seen before, making it more likely they'll be curious to find out what THIS one is about.
Here are some alternative video backdrop ideas for your church's social media videos:
- Use your weekend backdrop banner for a more casual selfie video
- Make a video at a local coffee shop - have two church leaders Facetime each other to talk, record the video with your phone, and post it on social media
- Do a selfie video outside
- Make a video with your pastor standing at the back of your auditorium
- Record in someone's office at church
- Stand in the student ministry room to talk about an upcoming event
- Stand in front of your church in the parking lot
- Go downtown to a park to talk about a community event (bonus points if you take your backdrop with you so it might look like you're in your church auditorium, but the viewer realizes you're at the park.
- Record in someone's living room
- Dashboard video while driving or parked
