Church Valentine's Day Celebration Ideas
Church Valentine's Day Celebration Ideas
Valentine’s Day provides the church with a great opportunity to share the love of Christ in a variety of ways. Whether you focus on God’s love, romantic love, or how we share our love with others, there are several ways churches can celebrate this month of love.
Here are several church Valentine’s Day celebrations ideas:
#1 - Share God's Love With Your Community
Celebrate Valentine's Day by demonstrating the love of Christ to your church's community. Various outreach events are a practical way to be the hands and feet of Christ to those around you.
Church Event ideas include:
- Partner with the city on a park beautification project.
- Adopt a few lower-income areas and drop off groceries.
- Organize donations to a local women’s shelter or other organization that serves the community.
- Deliver Valentines and flowers to seniors at a local nursing home.
#2 - Host a Marriage Seminar
Invest in the marriages of your congregation with a marriage seminar. Offer a few sessions on various marriage topics from a Biblical perspective.
Topics could include:
- Handling financial disputes.
- How to deal with conflict in a Godly manner.
- Ways to incorporate family devotional time.
- Practical ways to keep growing as a couple.
- Date night ideas.
Consider hand-picking a few couples from the congregation to share their tips for successful relationships. Encourage couples to invite their friends and co-workers to the seminar.
#3 - Offer a Parent’s Night Out
Finding trustworthy babysitters isn’t easy. One Friday or Saturday night in February, provide low (or no) cost babysitting at the church so parents can have a stress-free date night. Plan special Valentine’s Day-themed games or crafts for the kids. Consider getting the youth group involved in setting up crafts for the younger kids and cleaning up afterward.
#4 - Celebrate Valentine's Day on a Sunday Morning
The Sunday before Valentine’s Day, hand out Valentine’s Day cards from the church to all attendees. Include chocolate or little conversation hearts (and maybe even flowers) with the cards. This helps include individuals who are single or who don’t have a Valentine this year.
#5 - Provide a Valentine's Day Photo Op
Use one of our backdrop displays to provide a fun love-themed photo opportunity. Recruit a few volunteer photographers to take pictures.
#6 - Share Relationship Tips
Gather several respected couples from within the congregation and ask for their top relationship or marriage tips. You could video them and play the video as part of a church service, share the tips on the church website, via email to the congregation, or in the church bulletin throughout the month of February.
#7 - Create a Valentine's Day Craft in Sunday School
The children's ministry could plan special Valentine's day theme art projects or crafts for Sunday School. They could also help children create Valentine's Day cards to share with their parents or to deliver to local nursing homes to brighten a senior's day.
#8 - Help Forgetful Spouses
Sometimes this holiday seems to sneak up on us and some people forget to do something special for their significant other. To help those individuals stay out of the proverbial "dog house," provide extra Valentines for the forgetful spouses. You might also post friendly reminder signs in key areas ("Don't Forget, Fellas: Valentine's Day is coming up!").
#9 - Promote Pre-Marital Counseling
Valentine's Day is a popular time for marriage proposals. If your church's marriage ministry offers pre-marital counseling, you might take a moment throughout the month of February to promote this opportunity to newly engaged couples.
#10 - Share a Valentine's Day Theme Sermon
There are a variety of ways you could approach this message. You could focus on God's love and how we can model our ways of sharing love after His example. This could include showing love in marriage, dating relationships, friendships, family relationships, with unbelievers, and more.
Some frequently quoted Bible verses on love include:
- 1 Corinthians 13 (the "love" chapter)
- John 3:16
- Galatians 5:22
- Romans 5:8
If you're daring, you could share a few passages from Song of Solomon (use with caution).
Valentine's Day offers churches a great opportunity to share the true meaning of love and the perfect example we have in Jesus Christ of how to love each other.
